Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect the company’s interests and maintain good relationships with clients
  • Ensure that projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule
  • Assist, review and negotiate contracts, liaising with legal counsel, as appropriate, in conjunction with the Senior Project Manager
  • Develop, recommend and implement the project plan, after being awarded the project
  • Coach/mentor, provide direction, and review the performance of personnel reporting directly to you
  • Monitor and control progress, costs and budgets throughout the project
  • Review each project’s progress with the project staff as the project proceeds
  • Act to resolve disputes between the Company and owner, or Company and subcontractors when possible prior to escalating
  • Identify required and optional changes in project scope; negotiate change orders with the Owner/Sub-Trades
  • Participate in Consultant meetings, monitor the process and provide Consultants minutes and distribute reports
  • Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion

Site Safety Officer

North Vancouver & Squamish

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking to hire Site Safety Officers for our Squamish and the North Shore projects. You are passionate and committed to construction safety, have a willingness to learn and are eager to continue your professional development. You enjoy being a team player and can build and maintain relationships with the Darwin team and their affiliate contractors. You are able to commute when required.

Qualifications + Attributes

  • 1 to 5 years experience within the construction industry as a Site Safety Officer / First Aid Attendant
  • CSO training with experience working with a prime contractor in a commercial / institutional / residential construction setting, managing, and working with multiple trade contractors
  • Knowledge of the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Workers Compensation Act of BC with abilities to coach, instruct and guide workers
  • Punctual, reliable with a positive attitude who will represent Darwin with professionalism and tact when dealing with others, who will always lead by example with a positive attitude and commitment to the Darwin team
  • An ability to identify hazards, lead interventions of hazard recognition and appropriate corrective actions
  • Must possess the ability to work with others, be a reference and resource to the team and take direction from the Site Superintendents

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough daily site safety inspections prioritizing hazards, provide appropriate corrective actions and follow-up on corrective actions to ensure continuous site compliance.
  • Conduct workplace inspections daily
  • Train, coach and mentor site workers and team to ensure compliance. Initiate incident response systems and lead incident investigations.
  • Conduct site specific orientations including new and young worker and visitor orientations. Ensure all workers onsite have valid certifications prior to starting work activities.
  • Review hazard assessments safe work plans and instruction including JSA, JHA, SWP, FLHA, FLRA etc. Ensure completeness and effectiveness of documentations.
  • Compile and conduct statistics report weekly and monthly
  • Participate in weekly site team reports, site committee inspections and evaluations. Co Chair monthly committee site committee meetings. Participate in site audits and evaluations.
  • Support and assist Superintendents and Darwin team members as required
