Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to add to our team in Squamish, BC. You are highly accountable, motivated and enjoy providing mentorship and guidance to site operations. You bring a positive attitude and energy to work every day. You are a strong communicator and have the ability to grow strong relations with people you work with.

Pay: $32.00 - $37.00 per hour, depending on experience

Qualifications + Attributes

  • 3 to 5 years experience within the construction industry as a Construction Safety Officer / First Aid Attendant
  • Current CSO / NCSO / OFA 2 or 3 certification with experience working with a prime contractor in a commercial / institutional / residential construction setting, managing, and working with multiple trade contractors
  • Knowledge of the WorkSafe BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Workers Compensation Act of BC with abilities to coach, instruct and guide workers
  • Must possess the ability to work with others, be a reference to and take direction from the site superintendent
  • Punctual, dependable and is able to represent Darwin with professionalism and tact when dealing with others
  • Leads by example with a positive attitude and shows commitment to the Darwin team
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, who is seeking a long-term position that is available for overtime when required
  • An ability to identify hazards, lead interventions of hazard recognition and appropriate corrective actions
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office
  • Organized and thorough with filing of site documentation
  • Committed to continual professional development and growth
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
  • Ability to conduct site safety meetings including team meetings, sub contractor meetings, site committee meetings etc.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough daily site safety inspections prioritizing hazards, provide appropriate corrective actions and follow-up on corrective actions to ensure continuous site compliance
  • Train, coach and mentor site workers and team to ensure compliance
  • Initiate incident response systems and lead incident investigations
  • Conduct site specific orientations including new and young worker and visitor orientations
  • Ensure all workers onsite have valid certifications prior to starting work activities
  • Review hazard assessments safe work plans and instruction including JSA, JHA, SWP, FLHA, FLRA etc. Ensure completeness and effectiveness of documentations
  • Compile and conduct statistics report weekly and monthly
  • Participate in weekly site team reports, site committee inspections and evaluations
  • Co-Chair monthly committee site committee meetings
  • Participate in site audits and evaluations
  • Support and assist superintendent as required
  • Administer first aid to site personnel as required
  • Maintain site documentations as required

Qualifications + Attributes

  • 3+ years of work experience in a relevant role with a background in leading project teams to a common goal.
  • Applicable post-secondary educational background in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Planning or Land Economics.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word, and Project, with experience producing schedules, budgets, and presentations.
  • Strong research and critical analysis skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an excellent understanding of business professionalism.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the execution of projects, including leading internal and external teams, and taking responsibility for the design, approval, financial viability, and delivery of development projects.
  • Responsible for representing Darwin in interactions with municipal staff and politicians in support of our applications and issuance of rezoning, development and building permits.
  • Responsible for managing the general scope of legal agreements typically associated with development projects.
  • Project reporting, including the creation and management of monthly reports and development proformas for Darwin’s Executive Team and Partners.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of current and proposed land use regulation and related policies, particularly in the District of North Vancouver and the City of North Vancouver

Salary Range

The Development Manager salary range is $125,000 - $175,000 with an annual based bonus structure. The exact compensation offered will be dependent upon education & training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
